{"id":804,"count":1,"description":"<h1>Acceptance<\/h1>\r\nAcceptance is a term widely used in Acceptance Commmitment Therapy. <span data-huuid=\"1043885214870760131\">In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), acceptance means consciously and actively allowing unpleasant experiences, such as thoughts, feelings and physical sensations, without avoiding or fighting them. <\/span><span data-huuid=\"1043885214870759138\">It is not about finding these experiences good or bad, but about acknowledging and accepting them, as they are.<span class=\"pjBG2e\" data-cid=\"379eeb44-18aa-4d63-b833-fafdf9c2e376\"><span class=\"UV3uM\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\r\n<p data-start=\"356\" data-end=\"788\">This process helps to break free from impeding patterns and make choices that really suit you. Below you can read why acceptance plays such a central role in an ACT coaching process.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"832\">1. Stop fighting feelings<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"1099\">Many people try to push away uncomfortable emotions such as anxiety, stress or sadness. But the harder you fight, the bigger they often become. <strong data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1056\">In ACT coaching, you learn to accept feelings and thoughts as they are<\/strong>, without judgement. That gives peace and space.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1141\">2. Reducing inner conflict<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"1142\" data-end=\"1376\">Acceptance makes you <strong data-start=\"1173\" data-end=\"1207\">get out of the fight with yourself<\/strong>. You no longer have to control or analyse negative thoughts or feelings. This creates more energy to focus on what is really important to you.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1378\" data-end=\"1418\">3. Greater psychological flexibility<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1683\">Psychological flexibility is the ability to deal flexibly with difficult feelings while still taking action towards your values. Acceptance is essential in this. It allows you to stay present in the moment, even when it is uncomfortable.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1724\">4. Breaking avoidance behaviour<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1991\">Many people avoid certain situations, conversations or choices to avoid pain. In the long run, this works restrictively. <strong data-start=\"1848\" data-end=\"1953\">Acceptance in ACT coaching helps you stop letting fear or avoidance define your life<\/strong>, but to consciously choose to grow.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1993\" data-end=\"2021\">5. Live by your values<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2293\">Acceptance allows you to focus on what you really care about.
