rejection sensitivity

Managing and being sensitive to rejection; a difficult as well as common combination

Leadership and rejection sensitivity; a tricky as well as common...

by Wendy van de Kragt

Description

What is Rejection Sensitivity?

Rejection sensitivity, or Rejection Sensitivity, is the tendency to react hypersensitively to possible rejection. People who suffer from this often interpret neutral or even positive interactions as negative. They often expect rejection, even in situations where it is unlikely. This can lead to feelings of insecurity, anxiety and low self-confidence.

There is also a link to (highly) sensitive people. Do you also park your own needs? Are you very critical of yourself and do you regularly reject yourself? If this is an automatism, you are not suffering from your high sensitivity, but from rejection sensitivity.

You think a lot about what the other person thinks, does or feels about you. You are afraid of not meeting expectations. Maybe you suffer from fear of failure or imposter syndrome. Or you fear not being liked. Maybe you regularly experience that you don't belong or are different. You show adaptive behaviour (coping), such as pleasing, perfectionism, or you hold on tight to avoid feeling this uncomfortable feeling. This is how you unwittingly maintain your over-stimulation and under-stimulation.
You are not making healthy choices for yourself. This is not necessary, your colourful talents will not come to the fore and, above all, it takes a lot of energy!
